The group created two task forces to begin detailing plans for a new organization and an online portal. The portal was conceived as a free, online resource, that would bring together the finding aids for the Chicago-related manuscript collections of member institutions. A Steering Committee focused its efforts on pursuing funding to support the planning needed to move the portal development forward. Over the next two years, the Committee approached several funders and prepared grant applications. During this time, the group rebranded itself as the Chicago Collections Consortium (CCC).
